50|50 Season 9: Episode 13: 19 August 2018

This week’s episode of 50|50 is a little different, as we delve into the world of wildlife filmmaking. We have two guests in studio, winners of a prestigious wildlife film development competition called NEWF. Philicity chats to them about their films and about what the environment means to them! We also feature both stories in the episode.

THE RIVER GIVES

Mlungisi Ntuli’s The River Gives, follows the story of a group of remarkable individuals who call themselves Enviro Champs. In this touching film we see conservation transformation by the community for the community; and how a once polluted river system is transformed back to the pristine fully-functional clean flowing river system it once was. And their message echoes: “The environment can survive without us, but we cannot survive without it.”

SEEKING GIANTS

Somewhere deep within the expanse of the ocean, lies a mysterious creature that has captured the hearts of audiences all over the world. Only a few have had the privilege of observing these legendary creatures. This is the beginning of Fidel Tshivahasa’s journey, to seek the giants. It’s an adventure of a lifetime to learn about the Humpback Whales and their existence along Durban’s coastlines.

WONDERWÊRELD

In Wonderwêreld the King of the Beast rules. The lion pride that holds the territory in Mala Mala is growing in numbers and therefore no little foe will do. They are hunting the big and strong to feed all the hungry mouths. Join 50|50 to see what it takes to survive as a lion in the wild.

VELDFOKUS

In VeldFokus the choice of prey becomes sophisticated and strange for leopard, greater egret and agama alike. And when the eating is done we join an elephant for his afternoon siesta.
