50|50 Episode 37 Season 8: 17 December 2017
Spervuur: leopards
We end the Spervuur inserts for the season with a bang as those powerful and magnificent spotted cats saunter in front of our cameras lenses. Leopards are exceptionally resourceful animals but sometimes all the wiliness in the world is not enough to get ahead and stay ahead in the game of survival.
Thula thula: a game reserve in peril
World renowned elephant whisperer, the late Lawrence Anthony, made the Thula Thula Private Game Reserve in KZN famous through the compelling story of how he managed to win the trust of an embattled herd of elephant. This reserve is more than just the home of this special herd. It is the oldest private game reserve in KZN and is also a community reserve that has supported numerous tourism-related enterprises, not to mention local biodiversity, for the 20 years it has been in existence. This could all change under threat of closure as a coal mining deal for the area inches closer to finalization.
Wonderwêreld: squirrels
Bright eyed and bushy tailed tree squirrels bounce energetically onto our screens in this week’s instalment of Wonderwêreld. Being small in the African bush means you need to keep your wits about you at all times, while being part of a family that is always ready to sound the alarm at any sign of danger also certainly helps.
VeldFokus:
Dinner time is an energetic affair this week on VeldFokus! A boubou goes on the offensive when confronted with a boomslang, a pair of young male lions are not above thievery to grab the lion’s share, while the hunted becomes the hunter as a toad turns the tables on a snake!
